BASM – WEC

Attending the 15th European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference

BASM-WEC research group member, Dr. Yang Huang, attended the 15th European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference (EWTEC 2023). Held from September 3rd to 7th, 2023, in the picturesque city of Bilbao, Spain, this international event drew the participation of nearly 400 experts, scholars, and professionals from across the world. Dr. Yang Huang presented his research on “A CFD-FEM Analysis for Anaconda WEC with Mooring Lines.” His presentation showcased the critical role of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEM) in the analysis of Anaconda wave energy converters (WECs) integrated with mooring lines.

The EWTEC 2023 was a vibrant congregation of minds, featuring a diverse array of workshops and seminars spanning various domains. These included themes such as “Wave Hydrodynamic Modelling,” “Wave Device Development and Testing,” “Tidal Device Development and Testing,” and “Structural Mechanics, Materials, Fatigue, Loadings.” Participants actively engaged in stimulating discussions, and the event became a fertile ground for the exchange of pioneering insights.

A standout moment during the conference was an enlightening visit to the Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP). This open-sea test site, equipped with grid connections, provided attendees with a distinctive opportunity to witness firsthand the demonstration and validation of wave energy collectors and floating wind platforms.
